| Success with SEFIC |
| Due to a shortage of qualified UK veterinary surgeons, Eville and Jones, Britain's leading supplier of veterinary hygiene specialists to the Meat Hygiene Service, recruit many of their staff from overseas. Experience has shown that, while they may boast an impressive array of professional qualifications, these vets needed to prove their competence in Spoken English.
Since 1995 Eville and Jones have been using LCCI's Spoken English for Industry and Commerce (SEFIC) examination at Fourth Level to demonstrate that their vets can use English to communicate at the highest level. Eville and Jones' Human Resource Executive Duncan Garfield explains: "We chose LCCI's SEFIC qualification because it contributed to the achievement of our business objectives to provide professional, qualified veterinary staff with excellent business English communication skills. The SEFIC examinations are flexible to organise and, because of the speedy certification, our staff can confirm they are fluent shortly after having taken the exam." |

| Career confidence for China student |
| Jin Shan is secretary to the General Manager of Stanley Bostich Metal Industries Co Ltd, a Sino-US joint venture corporation in China. Prior to joining the company, she discovered that many organisations, especially foreign corporations in China, were familiar with LCCI certificates, especially as they exempt candidates from entrance examinations for some companies.
Jin Shan says that she was not nervous taking typing tests and English oral tests in job interviews, because she had gained confidence from her experience of the LCCI exam: ‘The LCCI courses have helped me a lot in my job,' she comments. ‘When I'm typing, my colleagues are always surprised by my proficient typing skills. As a secretary to a General Manager I have to deal with many business letters and e-mails. From the beginning of my job I found I was familiar with these English business letters in both format and wording, for the simple reason that I had learnt the LCCI English for Business course. Therefore the LCCI exams really gave me confidence to work well.
